ABOUT

DAIJOUBU was founded on 8th of May 2021 as a small WhatsApp group and later grew into a student association with the goal of connecting students through shared love for Asian (pop) culture.

Our Name

The name of the association “Daijoubu” or 大丈夫 means “Okay” or “All right” as in “Everything will be all right.” In Chinese 大丈夫 and similarly in Korean 大丈夫 / 대장부 means “man of character” or “real man”. The name was chosen for these positive meanings in all three languages and due to the last Kanji in 大丈夫 being read as -Bu enables puns such as daijou部 where 部 is read as -Bu and means club. As “-Bu” and “-Vu” sounds are the same in Japanese, the club’s name can also be read as DAIJOU-VU as we are also based in Vrije Universiteit (VU) Amsterdam.

Our Logo

The mascot’s name is Daijoubunny. The red hair and their hairpin represents the city of Amsterdam. Black pin and white stripes represent Universiteit van Amsterdam while the blue eye color represents Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Logo design by: ð_ð
